Edgy nail art inspired by SoNailicious

Hiya! So while I’ve been quiet over the past few months on the blog front, I’ve been able to still see so much great nail art about. I’m always amazed by what people come up with! So when Maria at SoNailicious posted her edgy spring nails I knew I would have to recreate it. Maria used three polishes from the new OPI New Orleans Collection, but I used three polishes I thought “popped” together well. They are: W7 Barbie Pink, Essie Saturday Disco Fever and Models Prefer Teal Ya Later. Plus, I am stoked to say I freehand drew all the lines! Check it out below.

Maria also had a pretty cool looking thumb nail but I didn’t end up recreating that, even though I think it’s awesome. To get the striping right I finally invested in some good-quality striping brushes, which you can find here. I’ll have to do a review on just those! W7 Mauve Debris

Evening! Tonight a quick post to show you another W7 polish I picked up from Chemist Warehouse. It’s called Mauve Debris and there’s a few other “debris” polishes by W7 you can pick up too. I bought a blue one and a bronze one. Same general idea behind each polish, a mixture of tiny glitter with larger glitter pieces. Mauve Debris, as the name suggests, is predominately purple with green bar glitters and hexes and gold hexes. I think I prefer how it looks in the bottle, it looks more complex than what it shows on the nail, and this is two dabbed coats with top coat.

As a glitter topper you need to wear it with some undies; with it I have two coats of Models Prefer No Angel. Wearing a glitter over white nails tones the whiteness down (obviously), which is what I like sometimes with white nails because they can be too white sometimes, you know? It had quite a nice sparkle in natural light as you can see in my outdoor photos.

W7 Twilight

Hello! Today I have a gorgeous polish from W7 to show you called Twilight. I’ve had this for a few months now and I can’t believe I haven’t ever worn it!

I mean, just look at the picture above. Isn’t the colour shift incredible? It goes from a deep blue right through to a deep purple. And I think I see a bit of green in there, too. the formula itself is a shimmery mix, but it builds up to opacity nicely.

What I’ve got on is two coats with a top coat of Seche. It applied easily, and I wore this for three days and just got general tip wear.

W7 Pink Suede

Hello! Today I bring you another polish from W7’s Suede Effects Collection: Pink Suede. After showing you Mauve Suede I couldn’t resist picking up Pink Suede when I saw it. As with Mauve Suede, this is nice matte polish that has a really lovely sparkle to it, even though this time I didn’t put a top coat on top to show you, sorry!

What you see is two coats, if you had better application than me you could get away with one coat as these polishes are thick and very opaque. It’s a matte pink creme that has a golden sparkle, most noticeable in natural light I found. Again, this polish dried fast. I also had a little more difficulty with the application: sometimes when I went back over the polish for the second coat it would pull the polish underneath it, so I recommend waiting a couple of minutes before applying a second coat.

W7 Moondust

Hiya! Hope your weekend was great. Today I bring you another W7 polish called Moondust. It kind of reminds me a bit of BYS Glitter Crystal that I showed you last week, but less blingy though. Take a look and see!

Moondust is a silver metallic base with numerous fine coloured glitters: blue and pink are the main colours. What you see is two coats. It built up to opacity very well and I found the formula to be very manageable. I used the foil method for removal and I didn’t find it to be any more difficult than other glitter polishes. What I do find difficult about these metallic base polishes is the fact they leave tiny bits of glitter around the outside of your nail that are a pain to get off the skin! Grr.

W7 Mauve Suede

Hello! Today I bring you W7 Mauve Suede after I saw it during one of my searches at Chemist Warehouse. I said to myself, “I wonder what suede nails look like?”. And according to W7 suede is another word for matte, so Mauve Suede is essentially a purple matte nail polish – just to clear that up. However I will say it’s a very nice matte polish due to the fact there are also fine silver flecks through it, which when worn outside the sun really catches. It also becomes more prominent with a top coat on, which you can see at the end of the post.

Mauve Suede is from W7’s Suede Effects Collection, which features four other polishes in blue, pink, gold and silver. I didn’t see any others though when I was going through the basket at Chemist Warehouse though. I think this shade is certainly less mauve and more purple, too. What you see on my fingers is two coats, which was very easy to apply. If you were a neater polisher you could even get away with just one coat. This polish dries super fast. You can even see it drying before your eyes and it’s actually quite interesting to watch. After about five minutes you can fully go about your day! Talk about polish on the run! Perfect for when you don’t have much time.

And here are a couple of pictures of Mauve Suede with a top coat. Like I said above the silver flecks suddenly seem to have a life of their own (in the second picture I’m holding my hand in direct sunlight to make the silver fleck look more obvious). This polish is definitely “deeper” with a top coat.

I’m glad I found Mauve Suede. It’s a nice polish to have and I personally love the purple and silver combination. I have read other reviews of the polish that have said the wear time is pretty bad. I would say this is due to the lack of a top coat. I only wore Mauve Suede for a couple of days but I did notice some very obvious tip wear on the second day. You shouldn’t have a problem with putting another thin layer over the top though if you want to wear it for longer, or alternatively wear it with top coat because it’s pretty like that, too. Butterfly wing nails with W7 Last Tango in Paris

Good evening! Tonight I bring you a quick post to show you some nail art I did with W7 Last Tango in Paris. I needed to cover up my worn tips so I figured instead of doing a French manicure, why not try a butterfly manicure? It turns out it was so much easier than I thought it would be, so of course that made me happy.

I think to make this manicure pop you really need to use a base that is more than just a creme, which is why Last Tango in Paris is perfect for the base. This is so easy to do; all I did was use a black striper polish to make the curve and lines on my nails, as well as to fill in the rest of the wing area, and then a dotting tool in two different sizes to make the dots on the ends of the wings. Easy peasy!

W7 Last Tango in Paris

Hello! I have W7 Last Tango in Paris to show you. It’s from another bin at Chemist Warehouse near my work and it’s very impressive for just AU$2.99. I’ve looked on Google but haven’t been able to find much about it. I think it’s from W7’s Spring 2013 Collection. It’s very pretty so look below for more pictures to drool over!

Last Tango in Paris is a beautiful dark purple crelly with blue and purple-ish glitters. I thought it was a bit sheer but after two coats it was perfect. Application was so simple as well, which was a relief. It’s such a pretty colour! I can’t believe how simple and pretty it is at the same time. Ah, the awesomeness of a good cheap polish.

I’m not entirely sure why it’s called Last Tango in Paris. There’s nothing really Parisian about it to me, or maybe it’s meant to be about the tango? Either way, it’s a fun polish to wear and I enjoyed wearing it. Thanks for reading!

W7 Little Black Book & dotting nail art

Hello! This evening I have W7 Little Black Book to show you. I was getting a script filled at Chemist Warehouse near my work and it had a whole heap of W7 polishes for AU$2.99. I looked through what was there – there were a few good colours – but in the end I just settled for Little Black Book. I settled for one because I have another W7 polish, which I don’t know the name of as the label has come off, and it’s quite watery. But I am pleased to say that Little Black Book is a much better formula, so maybe I’ll be back to Chemist Warehouse soon!

While you might think Little Black Book is black, it’s actually more of a deep brown creme with purple and golden shimmer through it. What you see on my nails is two coats. Be wary when you apply the second coat though: if you don’t wait for it to dry a bit it will drag and bald a little when you run the brush over the first coat. Speaking of which, while the W7 bottles are the same as OPI bottles, the brushes are thinner but still reasonable to use.

This is a really nice polish for winter. It’s much more sparkly in real life as well, as you might be able to tell from the bottle shot.

And because I like Little Black Book so much I thought why not put some dots on top? I used Models Prefer No Angel and two dotting tools in different sizes to get what you see below. Oh, and I popped a matte top coat on just for something different.

I think it turned out really cute. I typically have a habit of smudging the dots so I’m quite impressed I managed to get them looking like dots. Practice makes perfect! Let me know what you think. Thanks for reading!
